Compiling and booting into 2.6.1 on FC1

When I compiling and boot into 2.6.1 with FC1, I see the following via
dmesg

request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- block-major-3-0. error = 256
request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- char-major-6-0. error = 256

My /etc/modules.conf is

alias eth0 e100
alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
alias usb-controller usb-uhci

Does this mean I need some rawhide modutils etc
