gtoaster not working

I just installed FC1.
ATAPI burner is on hda

Log in as normal user, click "CD Writer" in menu, gtoaster is started.
Problems :
 - right at start it asks me for the root password
 - it does not seem to detect any CD writer
 - I can't burn a CD :-(

What is the current situation with gtoaster. Is it supposed to work out of
the box ?
Does it require some configuration ?
How can I tell that everything is OK ( I am looking at its window, how can I
tell that
the CD burner is detected ? )
