The use of GRUB or LILO is personal preference, I
think.  I personally use grub, and in order to install
GRUB to the MBR (on a system w/ only one HD), try
"grub-install /dev/hda" on the command line.

Subsititute /dev/hda with whatever HD you want to boot from.
