It was more confusion on my part. I like tha ability to have a lot of 
options available and was sort of in a state of not being able to keep 
seperate window managers from desktop managers.

Then there is the issue with alternative file managers. gmc or nautilus, 
from days gone by.

Basically, I was mixed up with calling KDE and GNOME window managers. 
They use different window managers as they evolve, but you can opt to 
use a window manager that is compliant with either desktop manager.

I think that I am starting to see the differences with window managers, 
desktop managers and file managers a bit clearer. I don't know if I am 
passing on my thoughts in an understandable format though.

I'll have to do some experimenting with trying various window managers 
with both the desktop managers and probably try out alternatives to the 
available desktop managers.

I did know that xfree86 was versatile enough to allow many different 
choices and is basically a graphical interface wanting input to give output.

Thanks for the thoughts and learning experience for me. If just to get a 
grasp on the GUI world in Linux.
