File system read only

Anyone know why a file system would be changed to read only and how it may
have been changed.
I'm asking, because I came home today and my file system on my fedora 2
box was mounted as read only. I had to manually run a disk check to fix some
file system errors to get the machine to boot.
Anyone have any idea?
Thanks.
