Did you leave a shell open where the current directory is under /mnt/flash?
99% of the time I see a message like that it's because I have a shell
still cd'd into the directory in question. Make sure you don't have the
directory open (either in a shell or in a browser like nautilus) and try
again.
"lsof /mnt/flash" may also help to identify the process responsible.
