program output under gnome

Hi all,

Just wondering where the output of programs started from GNOME (login
from gdm), not from shell, goes. When these programs are run from the
command prompt they generate output to stdout/stderr, I want to see
these outputs.

Looked in ~/.xsession-errors, /var/log/gdm/*, and ~/.gnome*/* but
couldn't find it.

Any pointer would be greatly appreciated.
