It would appear that on May 20, duncan brown did say:

Works for me!

Also "man mozplugger"  helped me find the mozpluggerrc file where it was
easy enough to rearrange the order of the application lines to select the
default preference for adobe, xpdf, or gv...

And the fix worked for firefox too!
