So this makes me suspect that this line 

   kernel: EIP:    0060:[<02123b4d>]    Tainted:

is telling me that the extended instruction pointer (EIP) was in
VMWare code when it went off in the wild blue yonder.

Was the vmware virtual machine active or idle?
