where to start to set up wireless?

Oh My God. This is going to be nightmarish, even the "should be dead simple" 
instructions are light years beyond my comprehension. It's all greek to me 
and if any one of the instructions don't work on my machine (which has been 
my experience nearly every time I've tried to compile any linux sources) I 
won't have a clue about how to fix it.

I'm afraid I'm an RPM kind of end-user. :-(
