Have you tried to start the server using #vncserver :1 ?
You should be able to kill the other using #vncserver -kill :2

Well, I tried that, and it says "A Vncserver is already running as :1" or some such verbiage... *sigh* Somewhere there's a lock file or something... I just can't find it. As I said, I looked in the usual spots... no luck.
Thanks
John

What happens if you try #vncserver -kill :1 and then restart it.

Jim may have been on the right lines, just started vncserver myself and found a hidden .X1-lock under /tmp perhaps this is the one.
