grub-install stalling

[FC <fedora ows ch>]

Hello Every1
FC3 system upgrading to the new kernel 2.6.12-1.1376_FC3smp
my grub bootloader died ...

1-> booting with cd1 (linux rescue)
      launching grub-install /dev/sda ... waiting waiting .. gave up 
after 30mins

2-> launched grub shell and issued those commands
      device (hd0) /dev/sda
      root (hd0,0)
      setup (hd0)

Rebooted system and bootloader was working

Any1 got issues using grub-install on sata drives ?
