Smartlink modem - modprobe slusb - usb_endpoint_halted

Greetings,

when I compile the slmodemd-2.9.20 drivers, I see this "usb_endpoint_halted" 
somewhere near the end of the compile. no errors are actually reported.

the slamr module inserts fine and works but when you try modprobe the lsusb 
module I get an unknow symbol error.
Then I check dmesg and there within lies usb_endpoint_halted

what (if anything) can I do to fix this?
