Minicom has only ansi or vt102

yes, I brought the cable home from work..

no, naturally different machine, as this is happening at home...2nd 
machine @ home, CentOS, gives the same problem(this time with the 
default minicom installation)..I'm leaning towards not being able to 
change ttyS1 to ttyS0...
