This will set kdm as default manager, and kde as default desktop

cp /etc/sysconfig/desktop /etc/sysconfig/desktop.bak
cat > /etc/sysconfig/desktop << EOF
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"
EOF

then restart X
