can edit etc/fstab

hi
after a fresh install of FC4, everything was ok, except that when i am
trying to edit fstab file, to make it mount my windows partitions
automatically, the file doesn open at all, i tried to open it with
test editor but no way,
the file type for it is : unknown, 
is there anyway i can edit this file ?
any help would be appreciated
