I'd like something that "just works" (and can be used by
parents/grandparents), and provides access to resolution settings, paper
settings, etc...
gnome-photo-printer is the best for printing on photo paper.

I had to compile it myself.

Thanks for the tip! gnome-photo-printer looks really good.
