Skype kills Gnome

I am running FC4-64 2.6.3-1, Gnome 2.10.0 and Skype 1.2.0.18.
While chatting, I get messages like /dev/dsp-1: Device busy
After a while Gnome freezes: the icons don't react anymore.
Also X has a problem because, when I move a window from under another
window, it doesn't refresh.  That window remains blank where it was
hidden.

Two questions:
1. Has anybody else had this problem and found a solution?
2. Since Gnome is dead, I can't logout and login but have to reset.
Is there some way to restart X and Gnome without hitting the Reset
button?
