Perl Net::POP3 works under FC3 but not under FC4

We upgraded one of our hosts to FC4, and the Perl POP3 client
began intermittantly failing.  The version is the same as that
furnished with FC3 (ver. 2.28), but the failures are:

intermittant authentication failure,
intermittant delete(msgno) returning success, but not deleting the message

Failures same for localhost and for other hosts on our 10. network.

Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
