Please Cc: me on any replies. Thanks.

I have a tar archive that someone managed to create with no-readable
directories in it, including '.'

dr-xr-xr-x user/group 0 2006-06-22 20:44 ./
dr-xr-xr-x user/group 0 2006-06-22 20:24 pos/
-r--r--r-- user/group 701771 2004-08-16 20:09 pos/foo
dr-xr-xr-x user/group 0 2006-06-22 21:19 ssl/
dr-xr-xr-x user/group 13423 2006-06-22 21:19 ssl/bar

When I try to extract the tar archive, it changes the permissions on .
and then cannot create directories under ., causing the entire
extraction to fail.

>tar xvzf files.tar.gz
./
pos/
tar: pos: Cannot mkdir: Permission denied
pos/foo
tar: pos/foo: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Skipping to next header
ssl/
tar: ssl: Cannot mkdir: Permission denied
ssl/bar
tar: ssl/bar: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

I've tried all sorts of options, and none of them seem to work (same
results as above):

tar -x --no-recursion --no-same-permissions -vzf files.tar.gz
tar -x --no-recursion --no-same-permissions -x -v -z -f files.tar.gz

Am I using tar correctly?
