Centralized login

Besides NFS+LDAP you can use additionally use thinclients with desktop
sessions, you can then have thinclient servers that login via LDAP, mounts
the home directories via NFS thinclient software offering the ability to
move between the thinclient desktop computers keeping your desktop session
intact.
