Log on shutdown not shown

I use FC4 2.6.13-1.1532_FC4 (bhcompile hs20-bc1-1 build redhat com) (gcc
version 4.0.1 20050727 (Red Hat 4.0.1-5)) with a Sony 20.1 LCD 1200:1600
DVI.
At shutdown the epilogue is not displayed or is not visible.
At boot it switches between 2 resolutions but that is not really a
problem.  If something goes wrong during shutdown, I can't see it.  Any
way to fix this?
