CD Sound broken

I am using Linux version 2.6.13-1.1532_FC4

The CD player is a Pioneer CD/DVD R/W.
I deon't use it often for sound, so I can't say since when sound is
broken but it worked fine before. Also now it reads data disks without
problems. DVD movies work fine.
I have issued the hdparm -d1 /dev/cdrom and /dev/dvd command. Both
point to hdc. hdparm confirms that DMA is set to 1 but still there are
short interuptions in the music.
Any idea how I can fix this problem?
