Re-build grub easily?[Scanned]

Is there a simple way to rebuild the grub.conf?

I found the grub-install tool, and tried to install grub to my /boot 
partition but this process failed ( I use the command 'grub-install 
/dev/hdb1' )

I have since rebuilt the system due to urgency, but it would be 
interesting to know if this is possible with a simple command.
