Fedora GUI

How good is the Fedora GUI?

I intend to use Fedora for developing a sockets based application, and not for network/system administration. I therefore want to spend more time/effort on the development, and less on the OS configuration. I am hoping that for the basic configuration I can get it done through the GUI.

Please advise me on this.
