Multiple CD-ROM Disk icons in FC4

I'm running an old Blade Center:
FC4
Gnome (no KDE installed at all)
Every Blade has between 3 and 6 CD-ROM Disk icons on the desktop.  I haven't been able to figure out what actions are causing them to add every now and then or how to get rid of them ... it seems to max out at CD-ROM Disk (6).

Anyone have an idea?  I'm not all that familiar with Blade Centers, but I think the CD is a USB device ... I originally thought it was SCSI, but now I'm pretty sure it is USB.
