/dev/ttyS0 is a serial port. /dev/tty0 is the active virtual
console. /dev/tty0 has special meaning that way. /dev/tty1 and above
correspond to virtual console 1 and above. You may also have
/dev/ttyUSBx for USB serial devices. Not that this helps with the
original problem, but you did ask.
