supporting linksys pcmcia card under FC6?

  i'm trying to build a kernel from the absolute latest "git" pull of
the kernel source tree that will have functioning networking on my
laptop.  the setup:

  dell inspiron 9200
  linksys etherfast 10/100 cardbus pc card
  FC6 with all the updates

networking works great under the latest FC-updated kernel
(2.6.19-1.2911.fc6), and i was sure that this card uses the "tulip"
driver.  but with the latest kernel source, i did a "make defconfig",
then added the tulip driver as a module but ... nothing.

  given that setup above, is there something obvious i'm missing?
