Are you using RHGB?  (is there 'rhgb' at the end of the kernel line in GRUB)?

Are you updated?  I recall something about a bug in RHGB that did
that, but it should be fixed now.

Try editing the kernel line when grub comes up and remove 'rhgb' - it
should go to VT7 when your X Server starts...at least you may find the
cause.

Just a guess...
