kernel upgrade with yum removed old kernels

Uh, you have to provide the path to the RPM file for "rpm -ivh" to work:

    rpm -ivh /path/to/kernel-2.6.19-1.2911.fc6.i686.rpm

And even then it may not install because you have later kernels
installed.  You may have to use a "--force" (and that can be dangerous).
