Prevent FC6 from putting directories on user desktops?

Configuration Editor -> apps -> nautilus -> desktop: uncheck
volumes_visible

Or, from the command line:

gconftool-2 --set --type=boolean /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible true
