In another message, you showed your ifcfg-wlan0 as using CHANNEL=3,
when your access point is using channel 11.  Some drivers do not
like the "MODE=" bit (which is probably where the message is coming
from) and always use managed mode.  Try commenting out the "MODE="
line by putting a "#" in it, and change the "CHANNEL=" to "CHANNEL=11".
Give that a try.
