Ok, I finally understand. Thanks, it works when I do:

# mount -o loop,ro /mnt/mandrake/yarrow/yarrow-i386-disc1.iso /mnt/cdrom

I didn't pick up the fact that actually there's two steps to take: first
mounting the device and then mounting the directory holding the iso to
/mnt/cdrom
