I noticed the same thing.  Haven't looked yet to see about
assigning/changing grids.

But I also noticed that on the gnome-panel, when running the
weather-applet that if you make the panel smaller in size (height wise),
the weather applet doesn't shrink with it.  It stays big, therefore the
temp is below the panel and barely see the top  of it.
