RPM is totally fubar'd after hitting some kind of time-warp?

It was set up with all directories using $releasever. No
mention of 9.0.93 anywhere. It worked fine several times before the
last fateful reboot. There aren't mixed packages. Just a mixed-up rpm
database, and disappearing diretories.

It's possessed, I tell ya.
