This is a display number for a server you are running.  If you will
do something like 'startx -- :1 &', or configure yourself more
servers in /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf, then you will see also Xorg.1.log
and so on.

Configuration software for X was using display 9 (in a hope of
not colliding with something else).
