seems to be sound related.
My .xsession-errors contains

audio_alsa: no cards found!
audio_alsa: no cards found!
audio_alsa: no cards found!
audio_alsa: no cards found!
audio_alsa: no cards found!
audio_alsa: no cards found!

Sound works as root, any ideas - weird how this used to work
