cyrus is possibly faster, but is clearly a more heavy weight solution.  Setup 
and admin for cyrus is greater.  Dovecot is lighter and simpler.

cyrus uses it's own binary database.  dovecot works with simple file formats, 
like maildir.

cyrus does its own delivery.  dovecot doesn't.
