What is the status of ide-scsi these days ? (Can't shutdown)

Well, it'd be cdparanoia and/or kernel.  What kind of drive did you say
this was?  And which kernel and cdparanoia versions?

Just to be sure I'm correct above, open a shell and do this:

mkdir scratch
cd scratch
cdparanoia -B

That should rip the CD.  If it's something in either the grip code to
get the table of contents and discid info, or something along those
lines, it could be grip's fault.  If it happens with this, that's not
the necessarily the case.
