yum 2.1.4-1 broken?

  Aha!  I was able to downgrade a few packages to the original from
FC3T2 and reliably reproduce this problem by tweaking something that
occurred to me immediately after I sent this last message.  Http vs.
ftp...seems that the http transport is causing this problem, but it
works fine with ftp.  Your dev repo setting in your yum.conf an ftp
locate as opposed to http, Seth?
  Hope that helps narrow down the problem.
