The source needs some work - I can get mpcenc to build, but I can not  
get mpcdec to build. There's no configure system with the source either  
- not that there necessarily must be one, but it's better when there is  
one.

Given the type of software it is, there probably would need to be a  
patent audit - software patents are generally evil - I think they maybe  
wouldn't be if there was more intelligence in the granting process, but ...

If there are not legal concerns, my understanding is that it is a very  
high quality compression, and that mp3/ogg/aac files that are as  
transparent as mpc are much fatter. It would be nice to have.

Keep in mind though that a gstreamer plugin doesn't mean Rhythmbox will  
play it - it might, I don't know - but it won't recognize my aac files  
and I have the aac plugin.
