The problem here is that to support some of the protocols supported by
gnome-vfs well you'll need a different API (an asynchronous one) plus
needs for dialogs for authentication etc.. Check the archives at
xdg-list freedesktop org for some discussion of the d-vfs effort and
you'll see why stuff like this is needed
