Just FWIW, I'm seeing something like this too.  Sound from the CD drive
(through the direct analog cable) works and is controllable with the
mixer, so the SBLive isn't completely out to lunch.  But nothing fed
via PCM is audible.  I've been trying, in my copious spare time, to
figure out if this is a kernel problem or what, but haven't gotten very
far yet.
