The main reasons to use Clamav on a system are:

1) Future safety. It is not impossible to create a virus or a worm on
Linux, but there isnt any money in it these days for desktops (php/sql
worms have lots more money in them). At some point however it could
happen and clamav would be a way to be protected.

2) You are using a mail server. You can use clamav to clean up some
spyware being sent through your network and most of the viruses

3) You are using a squid server. [I have not done this and only saw
someone say they could tie the two together.]

4) You are an SMB or P2P file sharer. This is part of being a good citizen.
