Install gaim without evolution?

Hi,

Is it possible to actually install X/Gnome/gaim etc without installing  
evolution? While Evolution is ok (barely), it really needs work when  
it comes to using large IMAP mailboxes. I'd rather use horde/imp and a  
web browser.
