After installing today's updates (20060823) (these also include last
nights updates) my laptop stops booting after the USBHID messages. Af a
short while the CPU fan start howling, something is eating CPU. Booting
with a previous kernel does not resolve the problem.

The system is now unusable. I've tried various boot options to no avail.

Any ideas what causes this?
