I don't see anything obvious in the upstream changelogs between git1 & git7,
What architecture?  Can you try booting with profile=1 and then after booting
do this as root..

* let system become idle..
echo 0 > /proc/profile
* wait a few seconds
readprofile

and post that ?  That'll give some clues as to what the kernel is up to at least
