I am using yumex as well.  Last evening when I started with adding
removing repo's it appeared to be frozen, I let it go all night and
this morning it had finished and had a list of updates.  I am totally
new to this, my first time with rawhide.  I am now changing out
various f8 packages to f9.  A few at a time just to see what happens.
