Found CUPS Printing Setup Mini-HOWTO

which pointed me to:
http://localhost:631/

Using the browser interface I was able to install a Postscript printer 
on a jet direct interface.

After a clean install of FC6 and after yum update brought it uptodate, I 
can't do two things:
1) Control Panel can't add a new printer (clean install means no printer 
defined), missing printconf-tui
2) After running /etc/cron.daily/makewhatis.cron, apropos returns 
"nothing appropriate" regardless of argument.

What's changed? I've been using FC4 until this install.
