Scanner Access Now Easy (SANE) is a universal scanner interface.  The
SANE application programming interface (API) provides standardized
access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner,
hand-held scanner, video and still cameras, frame-grabbers, etc.).

Update Information:

This testing update contains a proposed workaround for a series of USB scanners that were hanging or weren't recognized properly when attached via USB 2.0. Please test on all USB scanner hardware you have and if possible via USB 2.0 to confirm that it doesn't introduce regressions on other hardware.
